Inyanga takes part in VIP meeting with the First Minister of Wales

On Saturday 15th June 2024, Inyanga Marine Energy Group were delighted to take part in a high profile meeting  and tour at the Morlais substation on Anglesey, attended by  Vaughan Gething (First Minister of Wales), Ken Skates (Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport), Jonathan Reynolds  (Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade, UK Government) and Ieuan Môn Williams (Labour Candidate for Anglesey). The meeting was hosted by the Menter Môn Morlais team and Inyanga Marine Energy Group was represented by Osian Roberts, Commercial Manager for HydroWing.

Ken Skates (Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport), Andy Billcliff (CEO Menter Môn Morlais Ltd), Rebecca Colley-Jones (Chair, Menter Môn), Dafydd Gruffydd (Managing Director, Menter Môn), Jonathan Reynolds (Shadow Secretary of State for Business and Trade), Vaughan Gething (First Minister of Wales), Osian Roberts ( Commercial Manager, HydroWing), Ieuan Môn Williams (Labour Candidate for Anglesey).

Inyanga Marine Energy Group was awarded a 10MW tidal stream project at Morlais in the UK Government ‘Contracts for Difference’ Allocation Round 5 in September 2023. Morlais is managed by Menter Môn Morlais and it is the largest consented tidal energy scheme in Europe.

The delegates discussed the huge opportunities for tidal energy and marine renewables in Wales.  There was general agreement that there are immense potential opportunities for jobs growth and the local supply chain, with considerable excitement about the future.

Osian Roberts said: “It was a fantastic day and we were pleased to have the opportunity to discuss our plans with the First Minister of Wales and the other VIP visitors to Morlais. Our vision is for Inyanga Marine Energy Group to be tomorrow’s world leader in tidal energy and the 10MW project at Morlais is an important milestone on our journey.”
